So I’m doing a play this weekend (”365 Days/365 Plays” by Suzan-Lore Parks), actually a series of small plays for every day, at the Performing Arts Center at Naropa University, opening this Thursday, May 24th, 2007 at 8 p.m., and closing with a matinee on Sunday, May 27th at 2. I was asked by Square Productions to help with “Week 28″ of the plays. So I’m in three and I’m directing one. And while I play “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” on the ukulele (transitioning into a medley with “Come Sail Away” by Styx) in one, and a whiney “old friend” at a booksigning in another - the real kicker is I’m in full drag for the third, in a slinky, super-hot, pink sequined dress and wearing size 10 & 1/2 mens, red patent leather, lace-up boots that go to my knees. And a furry purse to go with it.
So we’re running thru the plays tonight, with about 15 minutes for each one (divied up between the directors), and I’m in my third one called “Boots” in my slinky outfit, when we get done and move onto the next one, which I’m directing. But I don’t have time to change. Because the clock is running and we have to keep moving with the plays. So I ended up directing the whole scene of mine, while standing in size 10 & 1/2 fuck-me patent leather boots and a slinky dress with a full-stuffed push-up bra on, and trying to run the scene calling out cues as we go.
Yep, one of the strangest directing scenes so far in my life.
