I played my first Ukulele Cabaret over the weekend at Jimmy’s No. 43 in the East Village. And for those that don’t know, it’s only the BIGGEST MONTHLY UKULELE EVENT IN NEW YORK. Yeah, I had my debut. It was pretty awesome. Got a sing-along going. Made a few friends. Drank about three very, very large hefeweizen beers. Played a Matthew Sweet song, an original song, and the infamous Steve Miller Band/Weezer mash-up. What a fantastic crowd. From beginners to virtuosos, to people who can’t really play, but make up for it with truckloads of enthusiasm and/or social anxiety. Can’t wait to head back for the next. It is definitely the most adorable semi-secret event in New York. You can quote me on that, bastards.
