I was recently in West Africa for three weeks, working with Kelsey Fox Bennett of Inner Art Creations at two schools serving under-privileged children: More Than Me in Monrovia, Liberia, & Christ Family Academy in Accra, Ghana.
Kelsey was training their staff in Brain Gym – a form of educational kinesieology (i.e. movements you do with your body that aid connections in the brain), as well as, working one-on-one with groups of students to process traumas. I was shooting several short videos for each school to help in future international fundraising efforts.
More Than Me approached me with the idea to shoot a music video for a student-written rap song about the school that had been produced two years earlier. We partnered with the students (and our VERY cool star Ruth) and shot around Monrovia, including in the slum neighborhood of West Point, where most of the student body of the all-girls school live.
It was an amazing experience, and the girls were fabulous, showcasing not only great musical ability and an inspirational call-to-action for the school, but a huge amount of swagger.
Additional videos for Christ Family Academy in Ghana will be live in the next few months.
